Job Description

The IT/Automation Specialist I provides technical support for information systems and industrial automation technologies within a regulated manufacturing environment. This entry-level role supports network infrastructure, computerized systems, and control system automation while ensuring compliance with cGMP, FDA, and Computer System Validation (CSV) requirements. The Specialist assists in configuring and maintaining IT networks, supporting system programming, troubleshooting communication protocols, and contributing to the development and implementation of PLC, SCADA, HMI, and web-based systems. This position offers hands-on exposure to manufacturing IT infrastructure, automation control systems, and regulated industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in configuring and maintaining network infrastructure, including routing, switching, domain settings, and network programming.
  • Provide daily technical support for computerized systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Troubleshoot connectivity and communication issues involving VPNs, ACLs, firewalls, DCOM, DDE, and related technologies.
  • Support system backups, user access controls, and server configuration activities.
  • Assist in IT architecture documentation and implementation support.
  • Support automation projects involving PLC, SCADA, HMI, and web-based systems.
  • Assist in coding, testing, debugging, and documenting automation and system software.
  • Support in the design, assembly, and wiring of control panels and server racks.
  • Provide technical support during system installations, upgrades, and commissioning.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving automation system issues in production environments.
  • Support Computer System Validation (CSV) activities in compliance with cGMP and FDA regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of validation documentation (IQ, OQ, PQ).
  • Ensure system changes follow established change control procedures.
  • Maintain technical documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Support project teams during implementation phases.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and IT.
  • Participate in on-site technical support during project execution and system start-up.

Profile and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related technical field
  • Preferably 1-2 years in pharmaceutical, medical device industry or a regulatory environment.
  • Experience through internships or academic projects related to automation, control systems, or related.

Skills

  • Knowledge of network configuration and infrastructure, system programming and debugging, PLC, SCADA, and HMI Systems.
  • Basic understanding of cGMP regulations, FDA regulatory requirements and Computer System Validation (CSV)
  • Exposure to Allen Bradley, Siemens, or similar PLC platforms.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus).
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity fundamentals for industrial networks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a regulated, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
