Job Summary:

The Automation Specialist II is responsible for optimizing an organization’s operational systems by reviewing, testing, repairing, and maintaining them, with a focus on computer networks, manufacturing processes, and related mechanisms. This role involves designing automation and control solutions for new equipment and upgrading existing systems, while managing small projects or multiple tasks within their area of expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Distributed Control Systems (DCS), various Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems, and industrial process instrumentation to support automated operations.
  • Perform the following field implementation activities:
    • Planning and scheduling tasks to ensure timely execution.
    • Field wiring corrections at field device/instrument.
    • Testing and troubleshooting on temperature transmitters, pressure transmitters, vibration transmitters, flow transmitters, Potentiometers, pushbuttons, switches, relays, and linear position transmitters.
    • Conducting basic calibration of instrumentation using appropriate tools and best practices.
    • Intermediate computer building and re-imaging.
    • Intermediate Ethernet LAN cabling. Repair and replacement of instrumentation and Controls.
  • Monitor, manage, and communicate with production teams regarding automation equipment issues and concerns.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to ensure timely completion of preventive maintenance tasks on automation equipment. Perform preventive maintenance as needed.
  • Coordinate with operations teams to schedule and implement automation solutions effectively.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to Level 1 engineers and other teams members.
  • Develop and maintain project timelines to meet organizational goals.
  • Review of electrical and controls design documents for accuracy and compliance.
  • Validate automation software performance against established guidelines and standards.
  • Read electrical schematic drawings to determine how to interface automation components.
  • Demonstrated expertise in programming and configuration of DCS platforms (DeltaV preferred).
  • Focus on tasks related to configuration, programming, installation, maintenance, testing, startup, upgrading, and troubleshooting of automation systems.
  • Creation of design documentation in SolidWorks or AutoCAD is desired but not required.
  • Desing, develop, test and deploy new PLC Programs and User Interface ensuring they meet operational and safety standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Conduct and support rigorous testing and validation of new and modified Controls systems to ensure they function correctly and meet specifications requirements.
  • Analize and optimize existing control systems to improve performance, efficiency and reliability.

Profile and Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

Experience:

  • 4-7 years of experience in automation systems design, programming, and maintenance, preferably in the pharmaceutical, medical devices, or manufacturing industries.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation, control wiring/panels, fieldbus communications and basic Ethernet networking.
  • Must be able to interpret/follow electrical drawings.
  • Proper and safe use of electrical hand tools.

Skills:

  • Technical knowledge in with proficient computer skills.
  • Fluent in both English and Spanish.
  • Proficient in writing in English with a focus on formal and technical contexts.
  • Must be able to Analysis / Problem Solving.
  • Knowledge of PLC, VB, SQL, SCADA, VFD, Operator interfaces and Man-Machine interfaces among others.
  • Full mastery of PLC programming is not required, but the candidate will be required to show growth and acceleration of learning in this skill.
  • Knowledge in reporting tools and data collection systems like databases and historians.
  • Knowledge of CGMP’S, FDA regulations and regulatory policies related to computer systems validation.

  • Work Schedule: Require flexible time, including the capacity to work overtime, different schedules, and holidays or weekends as needed.
  • Travel Requirements: Availability to work and travel to the United States, upon request.
